New Week and New Wonders

Let week two commence! Week two consists of skits for the preschoolers (“Mis Pasitos”), going to the market to buy traditional clothing for Guatemala Day on Thursday, and the start of English Club! In honor of Missionary Month, we were transformed for our skit into the characters of Paul (second from right), God (Tempie behind the cloud), the Narrator (me, on the right), and Paul’s friends (Bria, Kaylyn, and Brielle). We donned sheets as togas, clouds, and whatever other costumes we could find and told the story of Paul (Pablo) and his friends as their journied to Asia, as missionaries, to spread God’s word. We think Mis Pasitos liked the skit, because they were transfixed on the story, but we’re not sure if they really understood. photo

As the month goes on, we are experiencing more and more of Guatemalan culture, America Latina, and the precious students! We are praying that God will work through us in some way, even though we may not be able to see it directly. One of the women who works at America Latina, Ury, told us that she is the result of a group like ours. She said that even if we can’t directly see the work being done, God is doing great things for the students through us.

Welcome to English Club! We have been given the opportunity to teach English Club after school this week and our last week. Yesterday was our first day and we all enjoyed it immensely! We made nametags for the students to decorate, played a memory game with their English vocab, and sang some songs like “Heads, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”, and “The Hokey Pokey”. Tempie and I (Becca) had a blast teaching these songs to the 1st and 2nd graders, and Kaylyn’s memory game went perfectly. We are thankful to God for his help and for the energy and words (we did have to speak in some Spanish to explain things) to teach these kids something new. The Middle Schoolers enjoyed, we think, the club too but were a little less receptive (they are middle schoolers after all!)

Please be praying for us as we continue here at America Latina. Pray for energy as the month goes on, for good health, for our continually growing relationships, and that God would work through us and in us through this experience.

Que dios le bendiga! (May God bless you!)
